Getting started

Three minutes from sign-up to your first transaction. Novira works in any browser and installs as a real app on iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows.

Create an account

  1. 1Open novira.one and tap Sign up. Use email + password, or one tap with Google.
  2. 2Pick a strong password — Novira shows a live checklist (length, uppercase, number, symbol). Email-only accounts can change this any time from Settings → Security.
  3. 3Confirm your email if asked. You’ll land on the dashboard with a friendly empty state and a “How to use” walkthrough.
Already have a Google account?
Tap Continue with Google on the sign-in page — no password to remember, and the same account works across every device.

Install Novira as an app

Novira lives in your browser, but you can also install it to your home screen with one tap — no app store needed. Once installed, it gets its own icon, works offline, and can send notifications, just like an app you’d download.

  1. 1iPhone / iPad: Open Novira in Safari → tap the Share button → Add to Home Screen.
  2. 2Android: Open in Chrome → tap the three-dot menu → Install app. (Novira will also show an install banner after a few seconds.)
  3. 3Mac / Windows: Click the install icon in the address bar (Chrome, Edge, Brave) — Novira opens in its own window with no address bar or menu buttons.
Why install?
The installed version gives you a real launch icon, keeps your offline changes safer, syncs in the background, and (if you choose) buzzes your phone with budget warnings and bill reminders.

Find your way around

On phones, the floating tab bar at the bottom is your main navigation — it auto-hides as you scroll down and slides back up when you scroll up. On desktop, the same tabs live in a top pill that collapses into a tidy circle once you start scrolling.

  • Home — your dashboard: budget, recent transactions, upcoming bills.
  • Add (+) — log a new expense or income.
  • Analytics — charts, trends, AI insights, what-if simulator.
  • Groups — friends, shared workspaces, settle-ups.
  • Subs — every recurring bill in one list.
  • Cash flow — calendar of upcoming events and bills.
  • Goals — savings goals with deposits and milestones.
  • Search — find any transaction, save filter presets.
  • Settings — profile, notifications, data export, more.
A handy shortcut
Each settings panel has its own web address — visit /settings#notifications to land directly on Notifications, or /settings#data to land on Import/Export. Bookmark the ones you visit a lot.

The dashboard

Your home base. Everything you need to know about this month — and a couple of shortcuts to make tomorrow easier — without scrolling past three ad blocks.

Anatomy of the dashboard

Workspace header
Your avatar, name, and the current workspace (Personal, your couple, your home, or a trip group). Tap to switch contexts.
Available this month
Big number showing what’s left of your monthly allowance, after spending and excluding anything you’ve marked as “not allowance”.
Spending overview
A monthly budget gauge with category breakdown — red when you’ve overshot, green when you’re on pace.
Focus selector
A pill that lets you pivot the dashboard to a single bucket (e.g. “Tokyo trip”). All charts and stats then show only that bucket’s data.
Recent transactions
The latest 100 transactions. Pull to refresh, swipe to edit, tap “Load more” for older entries.
Upcoming recurring
A small panel showing bills and subscriptions due in the next few days, with quick-pay shortcuts.
What-if & insights
Cards that surface as the system finds something useful: a category cut suggestion, a price-drift alert, a weekly recap.

Customize the layout

Open Settings → Dashboard layout to drag panels into the order you like, or hide ones you don’t use. Changes save to that device — set up a different layout on your phone vs. your laptop.

Privacy mode
Tap the eye icon in the dashboard header to blur every amount on screen — handy in coffee shops or shared screens. Tap again to reveal.

Quick gestures

  • Pull down from the top of the page to refresh.
  • Swipe left on any transaction to reveal Edit and Delete.
  • Tap the workspace pill in the header to switch between Personal, Couple, Home, and any group.
  • Tap “Focus” to lock the whole dashboard to a single bucket.

Adding transactions

The most common thing you’ll do in Novira. The form is short, smart about defaults, and forgiving if you make a typo.

The fast path

  1. 1Tap + in the bottom bar (or Add in the desktop nav).
  2. 2Type the amount. You can type a math expression — 12.5 + 3.20 resolves to 15.70 on submit.
  3. 3Type a description (the “where”). Novira surfaces matching past transactions as one-tap chips that fill in your usual category, payment method, location, and bucket.
  4. 4Tap Save. Done. The form clears and you’re back where you came from.

Every field, in detail

Amount
Numbers and basic math. Currency picker next to the field changes which currency this transaction was in.
Currency
Defaults to your home currency. Pick from any of the 20 supported currencies for that single expense. The exchange rate at submission time is locked into the record so historical totals stay accurate.
Description
What it was, in your own words. Past descriptions appear as suggestion chips — tap one to apply its full set of defaults.
Category
Food, Transport, Shopping, Entertainment, etc. Auto-suggested from your description.
Payment method
Cash, UPI, Debit, Credit, Bank Transfer. Defaults to your last-used method (or whatever you set in Settings → Quick-add defaults).
Date & time
Defaults to “now”. Tap to change. Useful for backfilling receipts you didn’t log on the day.
Bucket
Optional. Tags this expense to a trip, project, or other mission so it shows up in that bucket’s totals.
Notes
Free-text private notes — appear as a popover on the transaction row.
Tags
Up to 12 tags per transaction. Autocompletes from your history. Used for cross-cutting filters in Search and Analytics.
Location
Tap to attach a place. Novira remembers where you usually spend on what — it’ll suggest the right place by description and category.
Exclude from allowance
Check this for transactions that shouldn’t count against your monthly budget — rent, transfers, savings deposits, big one-offs.
Split
Toggle on to share with friends or a group. Pick people, set shares, save once. (See the Splits section.)
Recurring
Turn on to schedule this expense to repeat — Novira will add it for you on the rhythm you choose.
Receipt scan
Camera icon at the top — point at a paper receipt or upload an image. Claude’s vision model reads it and pre-fills amount, merchant, date, time, category, currency, and location.
Drafts survive accidents
If you start typing and navigate away, your draft stays put as long as this tab is open — accidental swipes and refreshed pages won’t lose your work. (Closing the tab clears it.)
Pre-fill the form with a link
Web addresses like /add?recurring=1&date=2026-05-15 open the Add form with those choices already made. Handy from the calendar, your own bookmarks, or automations.

Editing and deleting

On any transaction row: swipe left to reveal Edit and Delete, or tap the row to open the details sheet. Splits, settlement transactions, and items added by other group members can’t be edited from your side — only by the original creator.

That’s the whole tour.

Novira keeps shipping. Open the app whenever you’re ready — the ? icon in the dashboard header is your quick way back here.
